Our Service – The Comforting Feeling of Safety

SUBEX air28, the mix that makes a difference

Since the start of the 2006 season, divers at all SUBEX bases have been treated to SUBEX's very own breathing gas: SUBEX air28.

  1. SUBEX air28 is a light NITROX mixture containing 28% oxygen.
    This mix of air combines the advantages of 'NITROX diving' (32-36% oxygen) with the use of 'normal' diving air (containing 21% oxygen).
  2. However, the dive computer doesn't need to be switched to a NITROX mixture, but remains in the normal compressed air mode.

For sport divers on holiday, these two measures taken by SUBEX have succeeded in 'squaring the circle'.

How come?

Complying with the maximum recommended depth of 40 m for sport divers and taking on board the maximum partial pressure of oxygen of 1.4 bar, SUBEX air28 makes divers far less susceptible to decompression sickness or oxygen poisoning.

Unlike NITROX, SUBEX air28 does not necessitate the use of special dive tables or computer settings, though divers still go down with dive computers, set to a normal air mixture.

This means:

  • greatly enhanced safety with respect to saturation and desaturation;
  • a lower risk of inert gas narcosis (rapture of the deep);
  • shorter mandatory breaks before flying.
  • All divers are offered SUBEX air28 as a matter of course and naturally at no extra cost.

No additional training or NITROX certificate is required to dive with SUBEX air28, since this air mixture does not take divers beyond the threshold past which holding a NITROX certificate is mandatory.

With SUBEX, filling up with normal compressed air is now a thing of the past.

The adoption of SUBEX air28 as its standard mix makes SUBEX the first dive operator in the world to launch a new product. Once again, SUBEX has broken down a barrier for the benefit of sport divers on vacation the whole world over.

"Better than NITROX, better than a normal air mix", SUBEX air28 – the air mixture with a future.

Support

Before each dive the SUBEX guide diver will brief you thoroughly on the conditions you can expect underwater in terms of topography, fauna, currents and any particular safety measures. Depending on requirements and/or requests, guest divers will be accompanied by an experienced guide, with each group consisting of a maximum of four divers. The guide will schedule each dive as an underwater nature trail, to be discussed extensively with the guest diver.

Requirements

At SUBEX all divers should enjoy their hobby – regardless of the organization they belong to. As is the practice world-wide, divers simply need to provide proof of their qualifications. Qualified divers still lacking experience (usually divers with less than 20 to 30 dives to their credit or divers assessed as such after the welcome dive with the diving instructor) will only be authorized to dive in the company of a SUBEX guide diver.
